Persuasive Essay
When I think of being in the professional sphere, I think of someone who has a desire to change the world. When I think of my life as an employee, I think of someone that is willing to go the extra mile in everything they do. When I first began my creative work in High School, I wanted to do everything I could to stand out. My mindset didn’t want to follow the crowd. My goal was to stand out no matter what and to tell stories in a way that hadn’t been told before. Daily, I dream about ways that I can tell a certain subject a certain way. My brain is constantly thinking of ways that I can create new content and put it out into the world. I always have wanted to create something that was unique and I am determined to work as hard as possible in order to accomplish that.

I’ve never been a stranger to hard work, as a student-athlete, my father taught me how to persevere and accomplish what I wanted. But that was only possible through hard work. He taught me that even when things don’t go the way we might want them, it is possible to turn them around if we put hard work into it. Being a student-athlete has taught me so much especially through being a pitcher.
Baseball is a sport where if you fail 7/10 you can become an all-star. Through my failures, I have come out stronger, and have been able to experience the process and the success of getting through the hard times. This has developed me into someone who isn’t afraid to fail. I am someone that finds ways over, around, or under obstacles and it doesn’t stop there.
I am always looking to learn, I want to become an expert at everything I do, and that is only possible by listening to both my peers and individuals that have achieved more than I have. Only by being open to all critiques can I help businesses stand out amongst the crowd.

Gordon College: How Covid-19 and Racial Injustice has Changed The Dynamic of our Christian Campus
In August of 2020, Gordon College saw many of their students arrive on campus to begin their fall semester. While other students opted for a remote college experience, on-campus students experienced a new kind of Gordon College this semester.
Students were met with new social distancing protocols and mask restrictions including limits on cross dorm visitation, leading many students to isolate in their rooms. This led to a rise in mental health issues and a decrease in overall campus presence.
Jesse Cook a Gordon College Security Officer, has had first-hand experience with the shift the College’s campus rules and regulations.
“Once students returned, there were a lot more changes for dispatch, including students registering their cars and bikes online. There was a lot less foot traffic and figuring out how to do things differently when we relied on seeing people face to face.”
Staff and students alike saw a change to the routines that they were used to. With fewer people walking around campus this felt awkward for many, as Gordon College is a campus that thrives off of face to face interaction.
“There were a lot of changes in policy, one being safety and medical escorts, which is one of the most important services we provide.”
Even services such as these had to be limited due to the inability of close contact and challenged staff members to have to think differently about how they provided daily tasks.
Covid-19 had a large impact on how students went about their daily lives on campus, including changes to the dining policy, class management, etc. These challenges continued as the semester went on.
But nothing was quite as difficult as it was for students of color. They experienced relentless hard times and faced numerous hateful acts taken against them.
Within the first week of school, the students had seen a defacement of a Black Lives Matter floor decoration. This led to students protesting in front of the president’s residence and calling for change on campus.
TeddyMax Talanoa, a Sophomore at Gordon College commented on how the racial events against people of color affected him and his peers.
“I no longer feel like a student.” Stated Talanoa. “I feel like so much of my education has been wasted, since so much of my time has been to respond to racial injustice on campus.”
For students of color, they have been the ones to look to on campus for a response to the racial incidents. Talanoa continues with: “I can't believe that change falls on the people that are victims of a society that is unwilling to change.”
For these students, it’s been exhausting to be oppressed and feel like they are the only ones doing something about the oppression. They feel that no one is fighting for them, not even the administration.
Since students have returned to campus there have been three acts of racism against students of color and it has left those students waiting for the administration to take action upon the prayers that had been extended.
Talanoa states: “We just want people to do their job. It’s not the student’s job to solve racism on this campus”
When asked if Talanoa felt if the school was making progress Talanoa said “I’ll give it to them, its a step, but a very slow step. We have a long way to go and that's because we (Gordon) didn’t want to take this step earlier.”
GCSA (Gordon College Student Association) has supplied a list of demands to the Board of Trustees for actions they can take to help students of color feel safe and comfortable on Gordon’s campus. One of them has been met so far.
Without a doubt, the 2020 fall semester at Gordon college provided more challenges than students had hoped for. As they begin to pack up and head home for the semester, students are hopeful that the spring semester will have something better in store for them.

Apple MOC hard news pitch
Reducing our Carbon Footprint by Thinking Inside The Box
How shrinking our packaging creates a greener iPhone
October 14, 2019,
Cupertino, CA

Here at Apple, we have been greatly anticipating the announcement of the iPhone 12. We have been so pleased to hear the excitement you feel, as a consumer, for this product to be released.
“Our team has been working around the clock to bring a product that will truly make the time spent indoors and outdoors more enjoyable” stated Tim Cook.
As an electronic company, Apple has always strived to be the best at everything we do. This includes reducing our carbon footprint. It’s no stranger to us that our climate is warming and at Apple, we wanted to take a stand and do our part in reducing our carbon emissions, while still providing the products you love.
Our team has been tasked with finding ways in our manufacturing and shipping process to bring you products that are less harmful to the environment.
We accomplished this by shrinking our packaging. We decided to remove the power adapter and Earpods that often go unused, while still including the USB-C to Lightning cable. This allows our individual product packaging to be smaller, which means more boxes per shipment and fewer shipments as a whole.
Along with our packaging, we are pushing our manufacturers to switch to greener renewable energy. Allowing us to eliminate our carbon emissions by 2 million metric tons a year.
At Apple, we are very excited to be moving in a greener direction, and we hope you are too as you know that when you receive your new iPhone it is produced and shipped in a way that is cleaner for our environment.
